Who Manages Your Land?

U.S. Forest Service: Manages approximately 200 million acres on 155 national forests and 20 national grasslands. Mandated to achieve quality land management under the sustainable multiple use management concept to meet diverse needs of the people.

National Park Service: This agency manages our national parks and monuments, which consist of approximately 83 million acres. The mission of this agency is to maintain our parks and monuments in their natural condition.

Bureau of Land Management: A bureau of the Department of the Interior, the BLM oversees 270 million acres, the most of any federal agency. The BLM has 12 departments located primarily in the western states. Its mission is to sustain the health, diversity and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of future generations.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
: Also a division of the Department of the Interior, this agency is required to protect habitat for birds, wildlife and endangered plants and animals in more than 500 refuges across the country. The system contains more than 90 million acres, which are open to nature observation as well as hunting and fishing in some refuges.
