The Sierra Club Chronicles:

A look at the compromising Club "Leadership" as it ignores the membership.

As long-term Club members we find there has been an extremely alarming trend in the Sierra Club for a long time: with no coherent message of what they stand for they compromise on every issue, even their message. They seem to say that it is O.K. to lose or give away more of our environment, our National Forests and watersheds, our fish and wildlife, and weaken the Endangered Species Act if it's "politically realistic."

When this flies in the face even of the wishes of the overwhelming majority of it's own members, it not only appears unethical, immoral, and unprincipled, but makes the Sierra Club down right dangerous to the member's efforts to save what's left! It gives the appearance of using the issue to raise money but not using the money to benefit the issue.

This section of the Native Forest Council Web Site is a look at a little of what's happening to the Sierra Club, and some suggestions to help it return to what John Muir envisioned when he founded the Club. After all, who would want Benedict Arnold's version of a Sierra Club when they could have John Muir's?
