Number of days since December, 1996 that the market value of Alaskan oil has exceeded that of Dubai oil: 13
We looked at every single day's Bloomberg stock report since December 1996 and counted the number of times that the price of Dubai exceeded that of Alaskan North Slope Crude.
The Point: OPEC nations have always been able to keep their price of oil significantly lower than that of our domestic supply--the claim that drilling the ANWR will reduce at-pump prices is ridiculous, for the OPEC nations will certainly be able to adjust their prices to continue to undercut ours. Drilling the ANWR will not change this simple bit of market economics. Why destroy our land?
